Waste containers can either be located inside buildings and externally accessed via secure bin store doors, or in purpose made secure steel bin stores located away from the building. This reduces opportunities for climbing and for the contents to be used to start fires. Waste containers on wheels stored externally, have lockable lids and are securely tethered away from the buildings. Bin stores for kitchen waste should be located in a similar way, although it is accepted that for convenience during business hours the bin(s) may be kept outside and close to the kitchen areas. Cycle and bin stores should be open to surveillance and therefore constructed of materials such as welded mesh, grilles or bars, polycarbonate or other secure glazing such as glass composites. When in use the store must be lit after dark using vandal resistant, dedicated energy efficient light fittings and energy efficient lamps.

Cycle storage provided is not overlooked, isolated and therefore susceptible to criminal activity. The stands do not facilitate locking of both wheels and crossbar. No external parking stores provided for mopeds, scooters and motorcycles, uncovered and located away from and out of view of the school building which have no secure anchor points.
