Forecourt crime-reduction campaigner, the British Oil Security Syndicate (BOSS), has renewed its membership with Secured by Design, the official police security initiative.
BOSS services are intended to reduce crime, help retailers to recover money owed, improve the efficiency of gathering information and reduce demand on precious police resources when retailers report drive off and no means of payment incidents to the police.
BOSS has been campaigning to reduce forecourt crime and keep petrol stations safe and secure for more than 30 years. They help to recover more than £15 million every year on behalf of forecourt operators and their BOSS Payment Watch service has become the most successful deterrent against potential offenders. It is sensitive to retail customers who genuinely make mistakes, but firm enough to deal with persistent offenders.

Bruce Nichol, operations director at BOSS, said: “BOSS systems conform to stringent Secured by Design standards and we’re delighted to continue our involvement with SBD. By being an SBD member, our partners, including the police, forecourt retailers and oil companies, can have confidence that BOSS operates the highest level of integrity and security.”
Doug Skins, Secured by Design, said: “I’m delighted that BOSS have renewed their membership with Secured by Design. They are one of only two companies who have developed crime reporting systems which have achieved Police Preferred Specification. I look forward to our continued working relationship over the coming years.”
