CLD Fencing Systems protects new Blackpool Police Headquarters
Cheshire based CLD Fencing Systems, a Secured by Design (SBD) member company, was the supplier of high security fencing and gates for the perimeter of Lancashire Police’s new West Division Police Headquarters in Blackpool.
Designed and built to house local policing and emergency response teams, the new £20 million West Division Police Headquarters is the largest investment in the force’s history. It also includes an investigation hub and a state of the art 42 cell custody suite.
Work began on the project in December 2016 when principle contractor Willmott Dixon ‘broke ground’ on the site. CLD Fencing Systems had previously worked with Wilmott Dixon on a number of police projects, including the design and supply of security mesh fencing for the Sheffield’s Custody Suite, as well in Merseyside, Grimsby and South Wales.
When looking at how the site would be protected, CLD Fencing Systems worked directly with Lancashire Constabulary to design an effective and appropriate boundary from its range of fencing, which has been accredited by SBD, the national police crime prevention initiative.
The fencing selected was the company’s Securus Lite SR1 Fencing System, Lockmaster SR2 Swing Gates and Slidemaster SR1 Cantilever Sliding Gates. You can find out more about CLD Fencing’s SBD accredited products here: http://www.securedbydesign.com/members/cld-fencing-systems/
The work was completed by AgrID Fencing Ltd who are members of CLD’s Approved Contractor Scheme.
SBD Development Officer Hazel Goss said: “CLD Fencing have been with Secured by Design since 2011 and have been producing some unique products. Their latest project, the Lancashire Custody Suite, looks amazing. I’m looking forward to further projects and products in the future which will continue to highlight their excellence in field”.
Stewart Plant, Director of Marketing at CLD Fencing, said: “Having the ability to provide one of the largest range of Secured by Design Rigid Mesh Fencing Systems allows us to let the client pick a fencing system that not only provides them with a guaranteed delay against attack but also the ability one that fits in with their design”.
SBD is a police-owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service throughout the UK to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives.
SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.
Products must be subjected to vigorous testing and auditing by an accredited third party organisation before being allowed to carry the SBD logo – this is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security related products in the UK.
