ERA renews Secured by Design accreditation
ERA Home Security Limited has maintained its accreditation with Secured by Design (SBD), the national crime prevention initiative, for a further three years, which the company hopes will highlight its commitment to crime prevention in the home.
As an SBD licensed company, ERA has a range of hardware solutions to meet the appropriate security requirements in accordance with the scheme. To qualify for SBD accreditation, ERA has to prove that its products are sufficiently robust to resist physical attack by casual and opportunist burglars. The products must also be certified by an independent, third party, UK Accreditation Service (UKAS) certification authority. This standard involves initial testing of products, regular re-testing and production of audits to ensure standards are maintained over time as opposed to being tested once only.
ERA’s Head of Marketing, Tania Tams, explained: “Being able to incorporate the coveted Secured by Design logo alongside our many other security-related accreditations, is very important to us. Many homeowners now look for the Secured by Design logo on products considering it just as important as the BSI Kite Mark which everyone associates with quality, trusted products. We are very proud that a range of our ERA and Fab & Fix products have earned Secured by Design status.”
Commenting on behalf of Secured by Design, Development Officer, Sara Giles, added: “I am very pleased that ERA is renewing its membership with Secured by Design, it’s great to see such a large company continuing its work with us in order to make people and places safer. It really shows the value of the scheme and I feel sets a standard and encourages others in the industry to follow suit.”

SBD is a police-owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service throughout the UK to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives.
SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.
Products must be subjected to vigorous testing and auditing by an accredited third party organisation before being allowed to carry the SBD logo – this is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security related products in the UK.
