Fordham House awarded Secured by Design Gold Standard

Located on the corner of Birmingham Road and Clopton Road, Stratford upon Avon, Fordham House has been awarded Secured by Design (SBD) Gold Standard for security measures incorporated into the design and build of its 82 high-quality apartments.

The development was required to meet SBD standards for physical security such as windows, doors and locks however Fordham House enhanced this with additional crime prevention techniques such as the automated rising bollards for resident parking, a part-time caretaker service and privacy blinds for ground and first floor apartments.

Commenting on the award, Adam Cooper, Commercial Director at Orbit, said: "We are really pleased to achieve the highest award from Secured by Design. We believe in providing high quality, secure homes for our customers and are proud to be recognised for taking extra measures to heighten the security at Fordham House."

Ian King, crime prevention design advisor at Warwickshire Police said: "Orbit has taken on board the principles from the SBD initiative and taken extra steps to design out crime. The standard of security included in the design of the development exceeded my expectations. It is a hard act to follow."

Amanda, a resident at Fordham House said: "The apartments here are modern and spacious, and it is perfectly located between the charm of downtown and the convenience of larger stores. It is a beautiful, safe and comfortable place and I love living here."

Martin Gallagher, managing director at Deeley Construction said: "Fordham House has been a great partnership effort and the Deeley Group prides itself on working with clients and partners to deliver highly successful projects.

"It’s a testament to the work everyone put in at Fordham House that it has picked up this significant award."

Secured by Design is the title for the official UK Police flagship initiative combining the principles of ‘designing out crime’ with physical security. Independent academic research shows that SBD developments that include crime prevention techniques in the built environment and accredited products like doors and windows can reduce crimes like burglary by up to 75% in new-build homes. Evidence suggests these figures are sustainable year-on-year and represent a significant reduction especially as most SBD developments are in social housing in deprived areas.

Fordham House comprises 82 high-quality apartments and has been developed by Orbit in partnership with Deeley Construction, ABD Developments and Stratford Town Trust offering enviable priority accommodation to the town’s key workers and locals.
