Meesons’ unveils the world’s first Revolving Door certified to LPS 1175 Issue 8

Secured by Design member company Meesons A.I. Ltd starts the New Year with the world’s first Revolving Door certified to LPS 1175 Issue 8 – an attractive and highly secure main entrance for business and commercial premises as well as for specialist premises requiring a high level of security, such as government buildings and police stations.

The North Yorkshire based company was presented with its certificate to recognise the high level of security the door provides by BRE at the International Security Expo at Olympia London in December where Meesons had the product on display.

The product has been accredited by Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative, for meeting its Police Preferred Specification for its robust qualities to deter and reduce crime. SBD is the only way for companies to achieve Police Preferred Specification for security-related products in the UK.

Speaking to SBD at the International Security Expo, Jeremy Terry, Chief Executive Officer, Meesons, explained that the product maximises the use of glass with the minimum of steel framework to provide a product that has been designed solely around the need to provide high levels of security.

“For architects and designers, it’s attractive from a design and façade perspective whilst being able to withstand a sustained professional attack.

“We have driven this forward by focussing on achieving a product that actually underpins good security practice,” he said.

Lyn Poole, Development Officer, SBD, commented: “This LPS 1175 SR3 revolving door is a great addition to the Meesons SBD Police Preferred Specification range of products. It allows new developments and refurbishments that would have previously been fitted with revolving doorsets, with inferior security, to have the security that is needed, especially in areas of cities where the higher security requirements need to be met.”

Meesons has listened carefully to the needs of the marketplace and worked on this gateway solution for the last 18 months.

The Rev 190, a fully automatic, four wing, bi-directional revolving door, has been designed for busy areas requiring an increased throughput whilst maintaining maximum security at all times. Its key features include anti-tailgating detection, configurable transit modes (day or night) and is attack ready to LPS 1175 even when rotating.

The revolving door complements Meesons’ range of security products and is the latest product in their range to be accredited by SBD.

The company, which can trace its roots back to 1864, has more than 30 years’ experience specialising in entrance control solutions in the UK security industry. It supplies and installs a wide range of innovative solutions including security portals, speed gates, hostile vehicle mitigation products and a sensor based system to critical national infrastructure projects, including data centres and central government, along with corporate clients and leisure operators.

The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) works with industry, insurers and government to set the standards needed to ensure that security products and services perform effectively.

LPCB’s Loss Prevention Standards (LPS) are widely recognised and applied in the security sector around the world. LPCB offers third-party certification that products and services have met and will continue to meet this standard. LPCB is part of BRE Global.

LPS 1175 sets out the specification for testing and classifying the burglary resistance of building components, strong-points and security enclosures. This includes security portals, doors, shutters and grilles primarily for commercial premises and for higher risk domestic premises. It is recognised by the Association of British Insurers (ABI) and the Police Service. LPS 1175 standard has 8 levels, SR8 being the highest.

LPS 1175 evaluates a product’s resistance to forced entry by a wide range of potential intruders, including those who are prepared to use a range of tools such as hammers and saws.
