“Our continued partnership with SBD shows a high level of commitment to customer service, as well as a keen focus on developing new ideas and products to help deter theft and burglary in this fast-changing industry"
Selectamark Security Systems Plc, global leaders in forensic marking, has renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative.
Selectamark is a leading supplier of property marking, forensic coding and asset identification solutions which deter theft and identifies stolen property.
The company has been at the forefront of providing Police and Insurance recommended property marking solutions since 1985. Since then, Selectamark has helped homeowners, businesses, local authorities, hospitals and schools protect their property, marking over 75 million valuable items in the process.
Selectamark is a family-owned, award winning company, based on the outskirts of London and serves its customers both directly and through a growing network of overseas distributors and UK resellers.
The company - a member of the British Security Industry Association - holds ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO27001 accreditations for its Quality, Environmental and Information Security management systems and work closely with Police forces and law enforcement agencies around the world to reduce a number of crimes, including domestic and commercial burglary, robbery, metal theft, vehicle theft and theft of cycles.
Selectamark’s SelectaDNA Defence Spray has recently been deployed by Lichfield Business Improvement District as part of their new ShopSafe scheme across its city-centre jewellery stores, with staff receiving special training to carry the compact, handheld DNA sprays to protect themselves and retail stock.
The SelectaDNA Defence Spray, which is Secured by Design accredited having achieved Police Preferred Specification, can discreetly tag and identify an offender without the need for physical intervention. It sprays the offender with an invisible solution of unique synthetic DNA code and UV marker that clings to skin and clothing for days, weeks or even months. When an offender is arrested, police can use an ultraviolet light to locate marked areas, immediately linking them to the crime scene. This can lead to their arrest and conviction.
The SelectaDNA Defence Spray is already being used by a leading sports fashion retailer and by security guards at major shopping centres in London. It has been introduced at a top Premiership football club to protect fans and keep trouble-makers away on match days. Many UK Police Forces, including West Midlands Police, are using the technology to target the antisocial and criminal use of scrambler bikes and mopeds.

SBD is a police-owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service throughout the UK to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives.
SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.
SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.
Products must be subjected to vigorous testing and auditing by an accredited third party organisation before being allowed to carry the SBD logo – this is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security related products in the UK.
