Police Digital Security Centre launch Safeguarding advice hub

The Police Digital Security Centre (PDSC) have launched a Safeguarding advice hub, adding to the range of useful cyber security information it provides for both individuals and businesses.

Online abuse is a major area of concern and cyber-enabled abuse and bullying is inescapable. The PDSC takes safeguarding extremely seriously and much of the advice offered to SMEs by the PDSC can be applied to keeping individuals, and their children, safe online.

The Safeguarding advice hub contains information pertinent to both adults and children, and aims to support people in making informed decisions and raise awareness to help prevent the risk of harm from abuse or exploitation.

The PDSC partner with ChildSafeVPN and will be sharing their advice and infographics.

Simon Newman, Head of Cyber and Business Services for the PDSC, said: “Like any parent, I worry about my children using the internet. Being able to talk to them about staying safe online is something we should all be doing regularly. These simple guides and infographics are a great way to support families in having meaningful conversations about internet safety and provide practical advice that’s easy to follow.”

The Police Digital Security Centre (PDSC) is part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives, a police-owned, not-for-profit organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service throughout the UK to deliver a wide range of crime prevention initiatives to reduce crime, as well as acting as a catalyst to bring together public and private sector organisations to create safer communities.

As well as law enforcement, the PDSC works in partnership with industry, government and academia in support of the Government’s ambition to make the UK one of the safest places to do business online.

The PDSC is focused on helping Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) reduce their vulnerability to cyber-crime and fraud by raising awareness about the most common types of cyber-crime and the simple steps they can take to protect themselves. All advice and guidance is consistent with the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC).

To help businesses start their cyber security journey, the PDSC have developed a simple online assessment tool which will help test the resilience of the business to the most common types of cyber crime. Based on the NCSC’s Small Business Guide, and developed in collaboration with BSI (the British Standards Institution), the Digitally Aware scheme recognises those businesses who have made the first step towards better cyber security.
