Premier Security and Fire Consultants welcome Designing Out Crime Officers to their factory

Premier Security & Fire have been welcoming Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCO’s) from the Metropolitan Police Service to their factory in Hainault, Essex and giving them a glimpse behind the scenes as part of an ongoing joint learning initiative.

DOCO’s are part of a national network of police officers and staff trained by Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative. DOCO’s specialise in designing out crime, liaising with local authority planners, developers and architects to put in place measures that will serve to deter criminals, creating a safe and sustainable community for years to come.

The DOCO’s met with Premier Managing Director Neil Johns and were given a tour of Premier’s engineering plant, including their 10 welding bays, in-house shot-blasting and powder-coating divisions, fabrication and pre-hang departments and new state-of-the-art CNC drilling and saw machines.

Following a CPD presentation detailing Premier’s range of more than 200 SBD products, including their LPS1175 SR2 and LPS2019 SRB thermally broken and fire-rated communal entrance steel door sets, there was a healthy information exchange where the DOCO’s highlighted problem areas encountered on site visits that could be overcome by design and engineering.

Premier Managing Director, Neil Johns said: “Premier has been a member of Secured by Design for more than eight years and we feel it is vital to listen to the police DOCO’s who are the people at the sharp end of the operation.

“Their experience and knowledge is second to none and I believe both parties benefit from the mutual exchange of views and information.”

Sergeant David Lucy of the Met Police said: “The MPS is hugely grateful for the CPD training given to our DOCOs by SBD member companies such as Premier Security. Collaboration between the police service and entrepreneurial private industry is vital in our aim to design out crime by influencing the built environment”.

SBD Development Officer Lyn Poole said: "This type of visit is hugely beneficial to all parties. The Secured by Design member companies can showcase their latest accredited security products, highlighting their features, how they have been manufactured to assist with crime prevention and demonstrating their most appropriate usage.

“The police’s specialist Designing Out Crime Officers are able to raise awareness of particular issues that they may have encountered whilst working with architects, planners and developers and together they can look to pool their expertise with that of the SBD member company and come up with an appropriate solution. The ultimate aim of both parties is to work together to provide better, safer and more secure places for people to live in.

“I would like to thank Premier Security and Fire Consultants for their ongoing work with us in this respect”.
