Secured by Design support National Home Security Month

The National Home Security Month campaign is in its eighth year this year and will be taking place in October. The NHSM 2020 campaign is encouraging homeowners to use trusted security products that meet the latest standards.

SBD seek to improve the physical security of buildings using products, such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

SBD work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK.

Kenny McHugh, the National Manager for Secured by Design, said: “I’m delighted that we’ll again be supporting National Home Security Month this year. When we are at home we are safe - and we want to keep you that way.

“With the pressures of day-to-day life, home security is quite often overlooked, and NHSM helps raise awareness around the importance of home security. Secured by Design’s Police Preferred Specification product based accreditation scheme has been operating for over 20 years and provides a recognised standard for all security products that are sufficiently robust to resist physical attack by casual and opportunistic burglars.

There are currently many hundreds of companies producing thousands of attack resistant crime prevention products which have achieved Police Preferred Specification. Academic research has shown repeatedly over the last 20 years that these accredited, quality products have reduced burglary where they have been installed. The Secured by Design website www.securedbydesign.com lists all products that have achieved the rigorous Police Preferred Specification standard.
