"Security is at the heart of what we do at Cyclehoop”
Cyclehoop, a London-based producer of secure cycle parking, has renewed its membership with the police Secured by Design (SBD) initiative.
Cyclehoop create, deliver and manage innovative cycle parking and infrastructure. The team is dedicated to making places more cycle-friendly, with their award-winning products designed and built in the UK by cyclists, to encourage people to make the switch and experience the benefits of riding a bike.
Cyclehoop was started by Anthony Lau after his cycle was stolen when thieves by-passed his lock by lifting his cycle over the top of a street sign where it had been secured. Anthony, who at that time was an architecture student, was determined to find a solution to prevent this from happening and so created a robust, metal Cyclehoop for the ‘Reinventing the Bike Shed’ competition in 2006. The Cyclehoop went on to win, and Cyclehoop, the company, was founded two years later in 2008.
Since launching in 2008 Cyclehoop - based at an industrial unit in Lower Sydenham, south London - have worked with public and commercial organisations across all sectors in the UK and internationally, providing a high-quality range of products, from cycle shelters and hubs to accessories, racks and stands. Cyclehoop’s Cycle Parking Rentals network – where the company install and manage on-street Bikehangars® with local authorities – is the largest in the world.
The Cyclehoop Bikehangar was the first on-street cycle hangar to achieve the highest security standard. With thieves constantly adapting their method of attack, the product designers at Cyclehoop continue to push the design to ensure peace of mind for the end user.
The company’s product range includes ground and wall-mounted racks and stands through to canopies and shelters, as well as bike pumps and repair stations.

Anthony Lau, Founder and Design Director at Cyclehoop, said: "Security is at the heart of what we do at Cyclehoop – it's the reason behind our formation. Having our products accredited by Secured by Design helps give our clients and end-users the same confidence that we have. As a business we continue to look for new ways to ensure cycle parking and security is not a barrier to entry, and more people can experience the joy of cycling”.
Lyn Poole, Secured by Design, said: "I was really pleased when Cyclehoop decided to renew their SBD membership. Most cyclists in London and other UK cities will have seen their products and probably used them. Anthony and his team are dedicated to reducing cycle crime in the most innovative of ways, with great products and nice designs, which do what they need to do to secure cycles".
