Solon Security's Defender Signal Blocker gains SBD accreditation to protect keyless vehicle fobs
Solon Security’s award-winning Defender Signal Blocker has now gained the coveted Secured by Design (SBD) Police Preferred Specification, having already won the Auto Express Best Buy 2018 award and been shortlisted for Best In Car Product at the 2018 First Car Awards.
The Defender Signal Blocker is a dual function faraday pouch that completely blocks the signal of any item that is sealed inside. Designed to store keyless vehicle fobs to protect them from Relay Attacks, the act of using a handheld signal boosting device to quickly and silently access vehicles that use vehicle proximity access, the Defender Signal Blocker can also be used to store phones to prevent distracted driving.
Lined with specialist RPF material, the sealed pouch creates a faraday cage effect, meaning the signal from any enclosed item cannot be read or accessed.
Mark Fleming, Solon Security’s General manager said: “By developing and launching a dual-purpose product, we were instantly able to combat two of the biggest issues that were affecting our customer base and, crucially, enable them to assist and protect their communities.
“It’s a great example of our company doing what we do best, listening to our customers and then working in partnership with them to develop and deliver innovative, quality solutions for their needs.
“Receiving awards and independent recognition is a real testament to the quality and performance of the Defender Signal Blocker, and now adding something as coveted as the Secured by Design Police Preferred Specification to the roll of honour is a massive achievement. We are delighted our customers can purchase and recommend the product with 100% confidence”.
Secured by Design Development Officer Hazel Goss said “The Solon Security Defender Signal Blocker is another great product which protects keyless car entry systems from being accessed by criminals. Placing your car keys within the pouch stops criminals from reading the remote which in turn foils any effort to steal your car this way.
“The pouch can also be used for other protection measures, including placing your mobile phone inside to block your phone signal whilst driving, thus preventing distractions.
“Solon Security joined SBD in 2000 and since then have been working with SBD to have products tested to Police Preferred Specification and this latest product will assist in reducing crime reducing the likelihood of people becoming a victim of crime”.

Secured by Design: Secured by Design, the national police crime prevention initiative, aim to achieve sustainable reductions in crime through design and other approaches to enable people to live in a safer society.
We have more than 200 SBD trained police officers and staff in Police Forces around the UK. These Designing Out Crime Officers work with architects, developers and local authority planners to build in tried, tested and proven crime prevention techniques at the planning stage to reduce crime and keep communities safe.
SBD seeks to reduce crime by combining minimum standards of physical security like doors, windows and locks that achieve SBD’s Police Preferred Specification standard and proven design principles of the built environment such as natural surveillance and defensible space.
Whilst police are unable to recommend specific products, SBD can act as an effective gatekeeper and signposting service to our 650 member companies and their products, which meet our rigorous Police Preferred Specification standards.
Members’ products range from secure and robust doors, windows and locks through to cutting-edge IT products, CCTV components, and shutters and barriers. SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security products in the UK.
