Solon Security’s Defender Signal Blocker to prevent vehicle theft wins Auto Express Best Buy Award

Secured by Design member company Solon Security has announced its popular Defender Signal Blocker has secured back-to-back wins in the coveted Auto Express Best Buy in the 2019 Mini Test.

The dual function product is a simple pouch that blocks signals from both keyless vehicle fobs and mobile phones, proving a successful solution for combatting keyless car crime and distracted driving.

As in 2018, the respected motor publication’s expert testers put the product through its paces, comparing and ranking performance against rival ‘faraday pouches’ on the market in terms of performance, quality and value. The stringent testing was the same as last year, as was the final result, with the Defender Signal Blocker (pictured below) successfully retaining its crown by being awarded five stars and Best Buy status. As well as passing frequency and attenuation testing, the product also won praise for its build quality and general usability.

Hazel Goss, SBD Development Officer, said: "It is always excellent news when one of our Secured by Design member companies wins an award for their products. Solon Security is always looking ahead in the fight against crime. Well done from one proud SBD Development Officer."

David Simpson, Solon’s Marketing & Sourcing Manager, said: “The Defender Signal Blocker has been a huge success story for the company, both as an anti-distracted driving tool and, in the last 18 months, as the UK’s favourite solution for preventing keyless car crime.

He said their commitment to design and quality is of the highest order, as evidenced in our development and use of our exclusive RPF™ material.

“It is fantastic to see this commitment rewarded by retaining our Auto Express title, adding to the product’s other independent accreditations from Secured by Design and First Car,” said David.

Keyless car crime, sometimes known as a ‘Relay Attack’, has been a growing problem across the UK for well over a year, regularly hitting the headlines due to the ease of the theft method and the sheer number of vehicles that are vulnerable. Police forces are increasingly distributing faraday pouches to their communities as a cost-effective way of foiling thieves and increasing peace of mind.

David added: “Another thing we have strived for is to make this product affordable to our wholesale customers in the Police and public sector, and to our retail buyers.

“It was pleasing to see Auto Express highlight this in their review, where we came in at the least expensive by a long way, but with zero detriment to quality. Securing people’s vehicles and peace of mind for less than the price of a car wash seems a very sensible and popular approach.”
