Vehicle Security specialists Trade Vehicle Locks (UK) Ltd joins Secured by Design

One of the UK's premier suppliers of vehicle security products to trade customers and installers, Trade Vehicle Locks (UK) Ltd, has joined Secured by Design (SBD), the UK’s national police crime prevention initiative.

Based in West Horndon, Brentwood, Essex, but with a nationwide network of fitters, Trade Vehicle Locks have a combined experience of more than 40 years designing, building and installing advanced locking systems for vans and goods vehicles.

SBD has accredited five of the company’s products, all successfully tested and approved to Thatcham Quality Assurance standards.

The Armour Shell is a high security, low maintenance locking system which incorporates a semi-automatic hardened steel locking bolt that’s durable enough to handle frequent use without failing. The unique design of the angled body is designed to deflect direct blows from a hammer, its inter-locking (anti-jemmy) rear body prevents the doors from being crowbarred / jemmied apart and on the side door the 45 degree shell body chamfer allows the Armour Shell to close to a gap of 3mm which further enhances protection to the systems locking bolt. The shells also incorporate hardened steel/ anti-drill inserts in the lock bodies to prevent circumventing of the locking system.

The Deadlock van security deadlock differs from conventional deadlocks. Operated by a high security key, a secondary Mortise Lock acts independently to the manufactures locking system by throwing a dead bolt into a specially designed keep, enabling optimum vehicle security.

The ODB Port Protector encompasses the OBD plug in a Secure Box which is then attached to the crash bar behind the dashboard and can only be unlocked with the correct high security key. This prevents thieves from overriding the manufacturer’s immobilisation system by connecting a Laptop/PDA/EDI Key into the OBD socket.

The Pedal Box van security protection has been designed and developed to prevent vehicle theft by encasing the pedals in a high visibility secure box.

The SlamLock. Human error is the single largest cause for vehicles being left unlocked, however the SlamLock addresses this problem. It will automatically lock when the vehicle door closes and cannot be reopened unless the correct high-security key is used, ensuring the door is always locked and dramatically reduces the chance of theft from the vehicle.

Tony Powell, Managing Director of Trade Vehicle Locks said: “Trade Vehicle Locks are extremely pleased to be formally associated and accredited with SBD.

“Some of Trade Vehicle Locks specialist team have been designing commercial vehicle security solutions for 35 years. We as a company are immensely proud our pioneering security products are acclaimed within the industry and particularly now with SBD”.

Guy Ferguson, CEO of SBD said:: “We are delighted to have Trade Vehicle Locks on board. They are clearly at the forefront of vehicle security, and have a great range of fantastic and innovative SBD accredited products to help tackle vehicle crime and keep people’s vehicles and property safe”.

Secured by Design: Secured by Design, the national police crime prevention initiative, aim to achieve sustainable reductions in crime through design and other approaches to enable people to live in a safer society.

We work in partnership with National and Local Government, British and European standards authorities, trade associations, the construction industry, manufacturers and many other organisations to reduce crime and the fear of crime by incorporating proven crime prevention techniques into the built environment.

We have more than 200 SBD trained police officers and staff in Police Forces around the UK. These Designing Out Crime Officers work with architects, developers and local authority planners to build in tried, tested and proven crime prevention techniques at the planning stage to reduce crime and keep communities safe.

SBD seeks to reduce crime by combining minimum standards of physical security like doors, windows and locks that achieve SBD’s Police Preferred Specification standard and proven design principles of the built environment such as natural surveillance and defensible space.
Whilst police are unable to recommend specific products, SBD can act as an effective gatekeeper and signposting service to our 650+ member companies and their products, which meet our rigorous Police Preferred Specification standards.

Members’ products range from secure and robust doors, windows and locks through to cutting-edge IT products, CCTV components, and shutters and barriers. SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security products in the UK.

SBD developments include such iconic sites as the 2012 London Olympics, Wembley Stadium and the Welsh and Scottish Assembly buildings.
