"We take great pride in ensuring we manufacture high-quality, secure products"

Expanded metal solutions specialist, The Expanded Metal Company, has renewed its membership with Secured by Design (SBD), the official police security initiative.

Operating from a 25,000+ sqm site in Hartlepool, The Expanded Metal Company is a front-runner and innovator in the development and manufacture of expanded metal mesh products, from construction materials to filters, grilles, walkways and visually striking architectural meshes.

Offering a high degree of technical expertise and a highly skilled team, The Expanded Metal Company supports contractors and end users at all stages of their projects across a wide range of industrial sectors, including construction, filtration, automotive, aerospace, architecture, agriculture, acoustics, manufacturing, engineering and security.

The Expanded Metal Company developed ExMesh™, a range of innovative fencing systems and security solutions which protect people, property and infrastructure from a broad array of threats. The ExMesh™ range of physical perimeter security products has achieved Police Preferred Specification from Secured by Design, alongside their Securilath™ walling systems.

The ExMesh™ range offers innovative, certified physical security solutions and includes high security fencing systems, gates and additional metal mesh security solutions such as cages and partition wall security. ExMesh™ is employed in the protection of staff and assets in sectors and environments including critical national infrastructure, defence, prisons, utilities, education and the public sector.

Securilath™ is an expanded metal solution that provides a discreet method of delaying intruders from creating an opening large enough to gain entry to premises.

Philip Astley, Managing Director, The Expanded Metal Company and ExMesh™, said: "We take great pride in ensuring we manufacture high-quality, secure products, and achieving Secured by Design accreditation on multiple ranges shows our commitment to this.

“We have worked closely with Secured by Design since we joined in 2001 and we have enjoyed a productive relationship ever since. As a business which is committed to continuous product innovation and is embedded in the security industry, The Expanded Metal Company and ExMesh™ are proud to be a part of the Secured by Design family.”

Alfie Hosker, Secured by Design, commented: “The Expanded Metal Company were one of the early members of SBD, joining way back in 2001. Over the last 3 decades, they have produced and developed a range of perimeter fencing systems, gates and walling solutions, amongst a range of other security products during this time.

“I know that they are continually looking to evolve their Police Preferred Specification range, which is tested and certified to the robust and exacting LPCB test process required to meet the relevant security rating of LPS1175. I look forward to another productive association over the next membership period.”

Secured by Design (SBD) is owned by the UK Police Service with the specific aim of reducing crime and increasing safety for businesses and individuals.

SBD seeks to improve the physical security of buildings and the surrounding area using products such as doors, windows, locks and walling systems along with fencing systems that meet the SBD Police Preferred Specification security requirements.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies.

SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK, through the Police Preferred Specification - a product-based accreditation scheme developed 25 years ago, which provides a recognised standard for all security products that effectively deter and reduce crime. SBD work with manufacturers and standards authorities to ensure that security standards are current and updated to keep pace with emerging crime trends.
