Zaun welcomes Designing Out Crime Officers
The only British in-house manufacturer of woven and welded mesh fencing systems, Zaun, opened up their factory to police Designing Out Crime Officers from multiple constabularies across England and Wales recently as part of special insight days to both the company and its products.
The UK Police Service has a number of highly specialised staff called Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) whose role is to provide specialist security advice and guidance as it pertains to the built environment at every stage of the design process, from pre-planning to the full development control process, in order to minimise the potential for crime, disorder and anti-social behaviour. DOCOs are recommended as a source of assistance by the National Protective Security Authority (NPSA) – previously the Centre for the Protection of the National Infrastructure (CPNI) - due to their comprehensive, specialist training.
Secured by Design member company Zaun is the UK’s largest manufacturer of welded and woven mesh fencing systems, supplying a wide range of perimeter, security and sports fencing, gate and HVM solutions for a large variety of sectors from schools and playgrounds to prisons and MOD sites.
Attending the insight days at Zaun were officers representing Cheshire Constabulary, Staffordshire Police, Cambridgeshire Constabulary, West Mercia Police, Dyfed Powys Police, North Wales Police, Warwickshire Police and West Midlands Police, along with representatives from the official police security initiative, Secured by Design.
The insight days provided a varied programme for the assembled DOCOs, with discussions around the challenges of physical perimeter security, the tests and processes Zaun undertakes for their products to become SBD accredited, areas in which types of fencing are best suited and concluding with factory tours that took in both the woven and welded mesh making machine, something that is unique to Zaun.
Hazel Goss, Secured by Design, said: “I wish to thank Zaun for holding our Awareness Days, both events have had such positive feedback from all that have attended, gaining extra knowledge and understanding in what makes such fantastic products. I attended the first day and had such a great time with excellent presentations and factory tour, learning so much followed by a wonderful lunch. Thank you once again for your hospitality and taking the time out from your busy schedules to cater for us all”.
Stewart Plant, Head of Sales and Marketing, Zaun, said: “Part of being your trusted manufacturing partner for sports and physical perimeter security is driving education in security. This is why events such as this are a fantastic opportunity to show innovations in British manufacturing that are driving real change in security products”.
