Armorgard joins SBD – and rolls out second generation of the iconic TuffBank tool boxes and tool chests

Leading manufacturer for secure storage and logistics Armorgard is one of the latest companies to join Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative, at the same time rolling out a new generation of their iconic TuffBank™ range.

In 1989, Paul Mitchell founded Armorgard, with the vision of designing and building the ultimate secure storage box. The result was Strongbank™, the company’s first product, which was the birth of today’s global brand.

Now, more than 30 years later, Armorgard sells over 130 products - including the widely popular TuffBank™, CuttingStation™, and Rubble Truck ™- through an international network of distributors.

The family run Armorgard has an important presence in the agriculture, construction, fleet management, landscaping and rail business sectors, dedicated to increasing workplace safety and productivity through the design and manufacture of a wide range of robust, dependable and innovative products.

Armorgard rolled out the second-generation TuffBank™ this week, adding new safety, strength and security features, and optional PowerShelf and lifting eyes to a product that has been accredited by Secured by Design (SBD).

The iconic range of TuffBank™ tool boxes and tool chests, which was launched over 20 years ago, has become a hallmark of reliability for customers worldwide, and one of Armorgard's consistently best-selling products. The latest model adds a new slam stop lid stay that enhances user safety. The new TuffBank™ also includes anti-jemmy features and hardened steel plates that make locks almost impenetrable, inset handles for a streamlined finish and a cable passing point for charging without compromising security.

In addition, Armorgard have introduced the PowerShelf to instantly transform TuffBank™ into a secure power source. This innovative optional extra includes four 110v sockets and four USB ports. Also available are crane lifting eyes and robust castors to allow for easy movement.

Armorgard, like Secured by Design, are celebrating their 30th Anniversary this year. You can find out more about Armorgard’s range of TuffBank™ SBD accredited products here:

SBD Development Officer Lyn Poole said: “I met up with Armorgard about 18 months ago and really liked their products. I am so glad that their TuffBank™ range has achieved Police Preferred Specification and they have joined SBD as a member company.

“Theft of tools from vans and building sites can be very expensive and disruptive and can affect the owner immensely, putting jobs on hold while trying to sort out insurance claims and replacements, so anything that will help protect tools from theft is an excellent addition to the marketplace”.

“At Armorgard, we take pride in designing and manufacturing products of the highest standards. We are therefore delighted to have been awarded the Secured by Design accreditation," said Armorgard Managing Director, Terry Mitchell.

“Safety and security is paramount to us, and is a crucial part of the process when it comes to designing products. TuffBank™ is one of the best secure tool storage solutions now available in the market and we anticipate it will become a huge hit with our customers. It clearly demonstrates that we not only listen to our customers, but also invest a great deal in research and development to enhance existing products and develop new ones.”

SBD is part of Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI), a police owned organisation that works on behalf of the Police Service to deliver a wide range of crime prevention and demand reduction initiatives across the UK. PCPI is a not-for-profit organisation and Board Members include senior police officers from each of the four Home Nations who control and direct the work PCPI carries out on behalf of the Police Service.

SBD plays a significant crime prevention role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors. It has achieved some significant success including one million homes built to SBD standards with reductions in crime of up to 87%.

SBD have many partner organisations, ranging from the Home Office, Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government and the Police Service through to local authorities, housing associations, developers and manufacturers and work closely with standards and certification bodies to ensure that their publicly available standards actually meet the needs of the police and public alike.

Products must be subject to rigorous testing and additionally be fully certificated by an independent, third-party certification body accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) before being allowed to carry the SBD logo - this is the only way for companies to obtain police accreditation for security-related products in the UK.
