Secured by Design (SBD) is an initiative owned by the UK Police Service that works to improve the security of buildings and their immediate surroundings, with the specific aim to reduce crime and help people live more safely. SBD is the only way for companies to obtain police recognition for security-related products in the UK. There are currently many hundreds of member companies producing thousands of attack resistant crime prevention products, across 30 different crime categories.

SBD plays a significant role in the planning process to design out crime in a wide range of building sectors, achieving undeniable success, including one million homes built to SBD standards, with reductions in crime of up to 87%.

Their undeniable role in crime prevention can be further witnessed within their product-based accreditation scheme known as Police Preferred Specification (PPS) that successfully provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime.
