Ring home technology accredited by Secured by Design
Ring, the leader in outdoor home security, today announced it has received accreditation by national police crime prevention initiative Secured by Design (SBD) for two of its innovative, camera-based home security products designed to reduce crime and keep neighbourhoods safe by protecting vulnerable residents from unknown and unexpected doorstep callers.
Ring Video Doorbell and Ring Stick Up Cam have attained SBD’s Police Preferred Specification after being accredited by a technical panel comprising a number of security industry experts. Ring is the first company to have a smart doorbell system accredited by SBD.
The Wi-Fi connected Ring Video Doorbell enables residents to see, hear and speak to anyone at their door from a smartphone, tablet, PC or Mac, anywhere in the world. Using the Ring app (iOS, Android, Windows 10 and OSX), users receive instant alerts when the doorbell is pressed or motion is detected. As a preventative security measure, Ring’s two-way audio and high resolution video image, day or night, also stores footage.
Ring Stick Up Cam extends the visibility and security beyond the doorstep. The wire-free, battery operated camera gives users the option to live view their front door, answer an alert when motion is detected and see and speak with their visitors via the two-way audio and HD video with night vision.
Ring products bring the established concept of Neighbourhood Watch into the digital age. Access to the app can be granted to neighbours or family members. Both products mean that homes can be monitored 24/7 – a useful resource to assist police in identifying callers acting suspiciously.
Jamie Siminoff, Ring Founder and CEO, said: “We consider it an honour to be working alongside SBD and receive its well-respected accreditation. We believe this is testament to Ring’s power in protecting neighbourhoods against criminal activity. Crime on the doorstep can happen at any time and our products are designed to be a useful aid to the police in catching criminals. It might be those who specialise in trying to trick people out of their money whilst calling at homes across the UK or try to talk their way beyond the doorstep with the intention to steal."

SBD works closely with police forces around the country using proven crime prevention techniques to reduce crime. Independent academic research shows that SBD developments have been proven to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour.
SBD Development Officer, Doug Skins, said: “Crime prevention has been a key part of policing since its inception and police forces all over the country are focusing increasingly on the importance of crime prevention and protecting those who may feel vulnerable, for example, through age, disability or because they live alone.
“We are always pleased to embrace products of a high standard that reduce crime and keep communities safe. Camera-based devices, such as those provided by Ring, can play an important part in crime detection and prevention. They help to deter criminal activity and provide police with a resource which can help identify people who are acting suspiciously outside homes.
Doug Skins continues: “Camera-based devices like these mean suspicious behaviour can be reported to the police even if residents are not at home. Police will always want to be told of suspicious behaviour immediately, so they can attend promptly and find out what’s going on, rather than find out later, that someone has become a victim of crime.”
Ring's mission is to reduce crime in neighbourhoods and empower consumers by creating a Ring of Security around homes and communities with its suite of smart home security products: Ring Video Doorbell, Ring Video Doorbell Pro (HomeKit-enabled), Ring Stick Up Cam and the new Ring Floodlight Cam. With these security devices, Ring has created the neighbourhood watch for the digital age and continues to keep homes around the world safe. For more information, visit www.ring.com.
