Schools Interactive Guide Now Live
The latest SBD interactive guide, this time covering school design, has been added to our website. The guide shows examples of good design and also examples of risks that may inadvertently be included in the design. New Space-Saving Cycle Racks
Turvec Solutions, an innovative cycle parking company, has achieved the Secured by Design accreditation for their unique Cobra cycle rack. This protected design allows cyclists to secure their front wheel and frame with one lock through the solid steel loop that connects spaces.
SBD specification door foils burglary
Ian Whiteford, Crime Prevention Design Advisor from Heddlu Dyfed-Powys Police, sent us this photo of a communal dwelling in Cardigan that he recently signed off. The developer showed Ian where an attempt had been made to enter the premises via the rear, ground floor French doors.
New era for Secured by Design and ACPO CPI
The national police project Secured by Design and associated crime prevention activities have been owned and operated by ACPO Crime Prevention Initiatives since 1999, when it was established as a not-for-profit, police owned company. With the closure of the Association of Chief Police Officers this highly successful organisation is now owned by the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) on behalf of the UK police services and will draw Directors from several police forces.
Forensic Marking Behind Police's Biggest Burglary Drop
A highly successful crime campaign using SelectaDNA forensic marking to deter theft has helped Cheshire Police record the biggest drop in burglaries in England and Wales - according to the most recent figures from the Office for National Statistics.
Operation Shield, which recently celebrated its first anniversary, is thought to have contributed significantly to a 19% year-on-year fall in burglaries – with an estimated 1,300 fewer victims and a saving to victims of more than £2.5m in a seven-month period alone.

Summit Roofguard directors sentenced in case brought by Trading Standards
The directors of Summit Roofguard Ltd, trading as Status Glass, have been sentenced to custodial sentences in relation to more than 20 charges of unfair, misleading or aggressive commercial practices. They tricked customers by offering them a ‘discount’ on a significantly inflated price, which still resulted in the discounted price being well above market rate. The ‘offer’ was for that day only to add pressure to the decision-making process. The company were also charged with two counts of displaying on a website the Secured by Design logo without having the necessary authorisation to do so.
Policing and Community Safety Partnership Ploughs Into Rural Crime
A new rural crime tool is being launched in the Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon area to tackle the problem of theft of agricultural items such as mowers, sprayers and trailers.
Around 200 farms will be encouraged to join the pilot scheme which is deploying SelectaDNA and went live at this year's Mullahead Ploughing Match on Saturday, 27th February.

We are exhibiting at the Homebuilding & Renovating Show
Secured by Design will be running the Home Security Advice Centre at the Homebuilding & Renovating Show from 14 to 17 April 2016. The Home Security Advice Centre will have experts from Secured by Design on hand to give advice to visitors who are interested in protecting their homes. The team will be offering free advice on home security, product specification and will be happy to discuss visitors' building plans and planned security solutions.

SBD member company Patlock has recently launched a TV advert in support of their product. It has aired on Yorkshire TV and will be shown on the Home Channel from Monday 14th March to Sunday 3rd April. You can have a look at the advert here:
Care in the community flats in Kent are awarded SBD
A development in Ashford, Kent, comprising 57 care in the community flats for residents aged 55 and above is up for several Borough awards for design and layout. The development also achieved Secured By Design certification. John Grant, Crime Prevention Design Advisor from Kent Police, worked very closely with Pentland Homes on the Design and Layout to ensure that the safety of residents was considered at every stage of the design and build process.
