SBD at the Self-Build Belfast Show
The importance of having a high level of security built in to doors and windows was a key message presented by Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative, at the Self Build & Improve Your Home Show at the Titanic Exhibition Centre, Belfast, between 17 and 19 February.
SBD Development Officer for Ireland and Scotland, Kenny McHugh, presented an advice session to members of the public about crime prevention on each day of the show.
Astraseal renews Secured by Design membership
With a clear focus on security, leading Wellingborough-based fabricator of windows, doors and conservatories, Astraseal, has renewed its membership with Secured by Design.
This means Astraseal has submitted its products for extensive testing and certification to achieve the highly-regarded Police Preferred Specification status, which confirms products meet a high standard of security, reducing the opportunity for crime.
Patlock face down the Dragons
Secured by Design (SBD) member company Patlock had its innovative French door and conservatory door lock seen by millions of viewers on the BBC2 programme Dragons’ Den on Sunday, 5 February.
Craig Knott, Owner, Managing Director and inventor of Patlock, presented the device in front of five Dragons, informing them that he came up with the idea following an attempted burglary at his home, after which he was told by the police how easy it was to gain entry through lock snapping.

Trace-in-Metal Granted Prized Secured by Design status
A North Yorkshire businesses’ revolutionary security system which protects lead roofs from metal thieves, has achieved the prized Police crime prevention accreditation Secured by Design.
The process used by York-based Trace-in-Metal involves infusing thousands of microdots into metal sheets ‘marking’ them with a unique identifying code.

Grosvenor Steels itself for Further Success
Grosvenor Technology, provider of security and attendance solutions, are delighted to announce a new partnership with one of the world's largest steel producers for the supply of its IT31 Workforce Management Terminals.

Important new security standard for access control units
A new security standard has been launched in the UK for door entry units that control access to blocks of flats.
The standard that is referenced UL293 – ‘Outline of Investigation for Access Control Units intended for use in the UK’ – is the result of a three-year development period between UL, a global standards and certification body, and the police initiative Secured By Design (SBD), which is managed on behalf of the police service by Police Crime Prevention Initiatives (PCPI).

Cubs learn all about crime prevention
West Yorkshire Police and the University of Huddersfield have teamed up with local Cub packs to help teach the youngsters to 'be prepared' and help prevent crime.
The three organisations have worked in partnership to create a crime prevention badge which local cubs can earn after completing a programme of crime busting activities.
