Hazel joins Secured by Design as our Development Officer covering the North West
Newly-appointed Hazel Goss was attending Secured by Design’s National Training Event on 6-7 March for the first time in her role as Development Officer.
Hazel had only started her new role the previous week.
SBD launches Academy to run new suite of independently certificated crime prevention and problem solving courses
Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative, has set up the UK’s first ever Police Crime Prevention Academy to run a range of independently certificated, advanced practitioner learning and development courses in crime prevention and problem solving.
The courses will provide structured learning opportunities for PCSOs through to police senior management as well as for new and experienced Designing Out Crime Officers (DOCOs) and Crime Prevention Officers (CPOs).

CLD Fencing protects Merseyside Police’s new Operational Command Centre
Cheshire based CLD Fencing Systems, a Secured by Design (SBD) member company, was the supplier of high security mesh fencing for the perimeter of Merseyside Police’s new showcase Operational Command Centre in Speke.
The £48million Command Centre on 11.4 acres of the Estuary Business Park is to be used by more than 1,200 officers and support staff, including Merseyside’s Matrix and Serious and Organised Crime teams as well as administrative and support services, such as dog kennels and dog exercise areas.

Pure Data Centres Group (Pure) is the first data centre to gain the Secured Environments award. Security was built into both the design of the facility (indeed they have already achieved Secured by Design accreditation), a new purpose built data centre in the heart of Birmingham and their procedures and processes. The organisation view security as being fundamental to achieving their core business objectives – that of maintaining power and service at the data centre.

Disklabs hold the key to prevent ‘keyless’ car theft
SBD member company, Disklabs, has come up with an effective way to prevent a car being stolen by thieves who use a device to pick up the signal from the vehicle’s key – even if the key is inside the vehicle owner’s home.
Known as ‘relay theft’ there have been a number of examples on TV and on social media recently, where cars parked on a private driveway, have been entered and engine started, even though the vehicle keys were inside the property at the time.

Secured by Design member company, Heald Ltd, has been shortlisted for the prestigious Counter Terror Awards and the Made in Yorkshire Awards.

New member company Yoti is main sponsor at SBD National Training Event 2018
London-based technology company, Yoti, which is seeking to become the world’s trusted identity platform, has been announced as the main sponsor of this year’s National Training Event run by Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative.
The event provides a wide range of training and information for the national network of around 200 SBD trained Designing Out Crime Officers and staff in Police Forces around the country. It takes place in Northamptonshire, early in March.
Iconic art venue opens in heart of Cambridge displaying an SBD certificate!
Kettle’s Yard, the University of Cambridge’s modern and contemporary House and Gallery and the former home of one-time Tate Gallery curator, Jim Ede and his wife Helen, re-opened to the public this month (February) proudly displaying a certificate in its main reception from Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative.certificate recognises that the House has followed SBD’s advice about incorporating measures to keep the premises secure.
Six council homes built to SBD standards near Great Yarmouth
A development of six new council homes at Gorleston-on-Sea, near Great Yarmouth, has received an award from Secured by Design (SBD), the national police crime prevention initiative.
The SBD Gold award recognises that proven crime prevention techniques have been incorporated into both the built environment, such as the layout and landscaping, and the physical security of the new homes, such as doors windows and locks.
